Muay Thai

Muay Thai is a combat sport from Thailand that uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques. techniques are divided into two groups: mae mai or major techniques and luk mai or minor techniques. Muay Thai is often a fighting art of attrition, where opponents exchange blows with one another.

Muay Thai is referred to as the "Art of Eight Limbs" or the "Science of Eight Limbs" because it makes use of punches, kicks, elbows and knee strikes, thus using eight "points of contact", as opposed to "two points" (fists) in boxing and "four points" (hands and feet) used in other more regulated combat sports
These are Chen, Yang, Wu, Wu, and Sun. In addition to those styles, several modern competition styles have been created, 42 forms/ 24 forms/ 48 forms/78 forms etc but mainly the 42 forms and the 42 sword forms. These are the most prominent styles, inside those styles themselves there are several subdivisions. There are several smaller styles that were developed outside of these styles as well, but never became as famous. There is no one style that is really better than another, it depends on personal taste, and body type. The theories inside are also slightly different, and some of the developments within the styles represent the generations of research. Martial arts are a science that develops along with those who train it. It is the foundation for the fighting aspects of the art, but it is more as well. Pushing hands offers a practitioner the opportunity to work with a classmate to test and see ones strengths and weaknesses, it allows one to gauge their own development, and is a handy tool for identifying shortcomings or unseen mistakes in one’s form and postures.

Pushing hands it has developed into a competition of its own. There are yearly competitions around the world now, and many participate, unfortunately some place pushing hands proficiency above actual taiji proficiency, thereby digressing it into a tug of war match testing each other’s strength rather than actually utilizing true taiji fundamentals. The problem there is that lower level practitioners have made an advancing tool the focus of their practice, thereby impeding their own advancement. It is key when practicing pushing hands that you are not competing with your partner, (unless you are actually taking part in a competition of course)

pushing hands is a tool for one to self analyzes and help a partner do the same.

eleyashttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00900461547473692475noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5396200330646714467.post-50199320742953852012011-01-31T11:42:00.000-08:002011-01-31T11:42:49.228-08:00What is an Internal Martial Art..?

Anything referred to as an “internal martial art” tends to be a style that focused around using the intentions to lead movement, rather than just action and reaction. Internal martial arts also tend to draw their energy first from the Electromagnetic forces of the Body (or Qi) rather than using brute strength to apply their power. From a position of muscular system, internal martial arts tend to rely more on skeletal alignment and tendon strength rather than larger muscles movements for their applications. Internal martial arts tend to be more scientific in application and training methods, build fundamentals deeply before actually giving the meat of fighting applications to a student. This is truly a question that cannot be covered in a simple faq.
Keep your back straight but don't force your back." keep body relaxed" Close your eyes and slowly breath in through the nose and out through the mouth, but don't force it, do it naturally, you want to breath like you normally breath without thought. Then just concentrate on the breath and block out all thoughts, whether good thoughts or bad thoughts it does not matter, just keep the mind empty of thoughts. If you have anything to think about, then do it when you're not Meditating or after you meditate. Now when you breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth in a slow normal peace, you should expand the belly NOT the chest! Remember you're focal point should be you're breathing. Do this for about 5 to 20 minutes a day. This should help you clear your mind and it’s also healthy for the body. Don't have any TV or Radios on you be quite, no sounds, try to relax and slow your heart rate down, and stop all those "random thoughts" from entering your mind, but don't use force to stop those thoughts from entering your mind either, let it naturally flow into you and let it flow out the way clouds pass in the sky. Also you should not meditate with an empty stomach or a full stomach of food. Remember that while meditating you want to reach a state of emptiness, void ness, stillness, tranquility.

Good luck and may you through your Meditation become at one with the eternal source we call the Truth, which will lead one to good mental and physical health. Firstly, practice of forms builds the basics of martial arts. In any style learned. Beginning with on stance, then a technique later stringing them together into lines, and eventually full sets. Literally translated, “wu” is military, “shu” is art. Wushu therefore means the art of fighting, or martial arts.
Previously, Wushu figured significantly in the simple matter of survival through China’s many wars and political upheaval. Today, wushu has been organized and systematized into a formal branch of study in the performance arts by the Chinese. It reigns as the most popular national sport in the country of 1.1 billion people, practiced by the young and old alike. Its emphasis has shifted from combat to performance, and it is practiced for its method of achieving heath, self-defense skills, mental discipline, recreational pursuit and competition To describe wushu, it is best to understand the philosophy of its teaching. Every movement must exhibit sensible combat application and aestheticism. The wealth of wushu’s content, the beauty of wushu movements, the difficulty factor, and the scientific training methods are the song of the elements that set wushu apart from martial arts. Routines are performed solo, paired or in groups, either barehanded or armed with traditional Chinese weaponry. In short, wushu is the most exciting martial art to be seen, felt, and ultimately practiced.
eleyashttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00900461547473692475noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5396200330646714467.post-78536847725088381352010-06-08T20:50:00.000-07:002010-06-08T20:59:47.623-07:00Introduction of Physical Exercise
Ba Tuo was invited to China to preach by the Liang Wu emperor. One of the biggest problems in understanding martial arts is the improper use of terms.Perhaps a clearer way to look at the term Kung fu is to express it as “squired skill level” So the term Kung Fu can be used to describe anyone who has a high level of skill in any endeavor, but it takes on a special meaning in the world of martial arts.As a result of many films and television series the continued use of the term Kung Fu has simply come mean Chinese martial arts for most people, even some Chinese use this term to refer to martial arts, but this is a result of popularity of the word, mostly from Hong Kong films.

The relationship between the two terms can be more specifically looked at as Wushu simply being the root, and kung fu is a proficiency of the skills therein. I.e. the ability to apply those techniques as a result of diligent study, practice, and applied experience. With the factors one can be said to have Kung Fu.

His great wisdom and kindness came to the ears of the Emperor who summoned Ba Tuo to come to him. Exact details of what happened at this meeting are Not entirely clear but is seems that Ba Tuo was offered riches, a place in the palace and Encouraged to continue his teachings. Ba Tao kindly declined this offer and asked for a Piece of land far away from any ‘civilized’ place in the province of Henan, on the side of the Song sang Mountain. There he was given a large piece of land and the resources to Build a monastery in an area called ‘Wooded Hill’ or ‘Small Forest’, which translates to Shaolin in Mandarin of Sil-Lum in Cantonese.
According to the Continued Biographies of Eminent Monks (AD 645) by Daoxuan, the Shaolin Monastery was built on the north side of Shaoshi, the western peak of Mount Song, one of the Sacred Mountains of China, by Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei Dynasty for the monk Bu To. Yang Xuanzhi, in the Record of the Buddhist Monasteries of Luoyang (AD 547), and Li Xian, in the Ming Yitongzhi (AD 1461), concur with Daoxuan’s location and attribution. The Jiaqing Chongxiu Yitongzhi (AD 1843) specifies That this monastery, located in the province of Henan, was built in the 20th year of the Taihe era of the Northern Wei Dynasty, that is, the monastery was built in 497 CE.
According to one the oldest books Deng Feng Country Recording (Deng Feng Xian Zhi) Where Shaolin is situated, a Buddhist monk name Ba Tuo, come to China for Buddhist preaching in 464 A.D. Thirty-one years later, the Shaolin Temple was built in 495 CE, by the order of Wei Xiao Wen emperor (471-500 CE) for Batuo’s preaching. Yet, the most influential person in Shaolin was the Indian monk Sardili, also know as Bodhidharma and named Da Mo by the Chinese.eleyashttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00900461547473692475noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5396200330646714467.post-18136274865751995432009-09-19T09:04:00.000-07:002009-09-19T09:07:35.657-07:00Western Martial Arts (WMA)<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 224px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_kB4o6EhN2A8/SrUBvA2bhlI/AAAAAAAAADk/e6XrgPMwWK8/s320/107.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5383210836785071698" />

Western Martial Arts (WMA) refers to formalised fighting techniques and skills of European or generally Western origin, as distinct from those originating in Asia.

The term "Western Martial Arts" was originally coined by Pete Kautz of Alliance Martial Arts (see the discussion page for this article), referring to the study, recreation and preservation of combat skills developed in Europe or European colonies during the 14th through turn of the 20th centuries. These are often distinguished by the term Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA). WMA usually refers to both historical martial arts that have fallen out of use and to extent traditional European martial arts and combat sports such as boxing, savate, Jogo do Pau and catch-as-catch-can wrestling, but may be used more narrowly (as a synonym for HEMA), or more broadly to include other non-Asian arts like World War II combatives and even Capoeira.eleyashttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00900461547473692475noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5396200330646714467.post-35567492625730481932009-06-10T08:54:00.000-07:002009-06-10T09:03:07.051-07:00Origins of Asian martial arts

Kata are used in many traditional Japanese arts such as theater forms like kabuki and schools of tea ceremony (chadō), but are most commonly known for the presence in the martial arts. Kata are used by most traditional Japanese and Okinawan martial arts,. Other arts such as t'ai chi ch'uan and taekwondo feature the same kind of training, but use the respective Chinese and Korean words instead.

In Japanese martial arts practice, kata is often seen as an essential partner to randori training with one complementing the other. However, the actual type and frequency of kata versus randori training varies from art to art. In iaidō, solo kata using the Japanese sword (katana) comprises almost all of the training. Whereas in judo, kata training is de-emphasized and usually only prepared for dan grading.

In kenjutsu, paired kata at the beginners level can appear to be stilted. At higher levels serious injury is prevented only by a high sensitivity of both participants to important concepts being taught and trained for. These include timing and distance, with the kata practiced at high speed. This adjustability of kata training is found in other Japanese arts with roles of attacker and defender often interchanging within the sequence.

Many martial arts use kata for public demonstrations and in competitions, awarding points for such aspects of technique as style, balance, timing, and verisimilitude (appearance of being real).eleyashttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00900461547473692475noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5396200330646714467.post-56881802225019484962009-05-11T07:09:00.000-07:002009-05-11T07:24:43.452-07:00Korean martial arts
